WILD TREK
Join us for a 6 day overnight trekking adventure through the wild Orangutan territory of Gunung Leuser National Park. Inclusive of 3 nights hotel accommodation in Bukit Lawang to relax before and after the trek and a short practice trek to visit the semi wild rehabilitated Orangutans at the Bukit Lawang feeding platform. Whist trekking learn key jungle skills such as building fires and camps, finding and cooking jungle vegetables, fishing for dinner and finding and preparing jungle medicine. The Sumatran rain forest is host to a multitude of species, including Sumatran Orangutan, Sumatran Tiger, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Sumatran Elephant, Sumatran Striped Rabbit, Malayan Tapir, Malayan Sun Bear, Bornean Clouded Leopard and many birds and butterflies. Of the 10,000 plant species recorded in the West Indo-Malayan region, it is estimated that 45% are found in the Gunung Leuser ecosystem. It is also home to Sumatran Pine, Rafflesia arnoldii (world's largest individual flower), Titan arum (world's tallest and largest inflorescence flower) This expedition lasts for 9 days, but we can offer more activities such as Elephant Riding in Tangakhan, Whitewater rafting and overland tours to Berastagi volacano and Lake Toba if you have more time to experience the many highlights Sumatra has to offer. This expedition is ideal for single travellers looking for like minded people to share experiences with. Please see below for 2008-2009 group dates. SUMATRA OVERLAND TOURS AND RAFTING
Duration: 14 DAYS / 13 NIGHTS
START/FINISH: MEDAN/PADANG
Grade: MODERATE
DAY 01 : AIRPORT – HOTEL
Upon arrival in Polonia airport, you will be transferred to hotel and enjoy a free time at own leisure. (B)
DAY 02 : MEDAN – BOHOROK
After breakfast, we will do a city tour by visiting great Mosque, Sultan palace and crocodile farm. En route to Bohorok, we will stop by at palm oil and rubber plantation. Upon arrival at Bohorok, we directly check in to hotel. (B)
DAY 03 : BOHOROK – FULL DAY WHITE WATER RAFTING
After breakfast, we will go to Wampu River by mini bus. It is time to start your white water rafting adventure. It will be an excellent opportunity to see birds and wild life during the rafting time, as well as enjoy the rapids. After reaching the waterfall, you can enjoy a fresh shower at the riverbank. Lunch will be provided afterwards. After arrive at finishing point, you can take a coffee break before go back to hotel. (B)
DAY 04 : BOHOROK – VISIT ORANG UTAN
After breakfast, we will walk into the jungle to see the Orang Utan by crossing the river with traditional canoe then trekking to the feeding site to see the Orang Utan on their feeding time. After feeding time, we will return to hotel, otherwise jungle trekking for 2 hours in the jungle will be optional choice (extra charge for clients who want to go jungle trekking). (B)
DAY 05 : BOHOROK – BRASTAGI
After breakfast, we will drive to Brastagi with stop by at Sembahe River and Sukulikap waterfall and visit Batak Karo traditional village at Peceren, also a fruit market. In the afternoon, we will check in to hotel. (B)
DAY 06 : BRASTAGI – SAMOSIR
After breakfast, we will drive to Parapat. En route, we will visit Sipiso-piso waterfall, Rumah Bolan (Long House) the old palace of Batak Simalungun kings and Simarjarunjung to see the view of Lake Toba. Upon arrival at Parapat, we will cross to Samosir Island by ferryboat then directly check in to hotel (B)
DAY 07 : SAMOSIR EXCURSION
After breakfast, we will take an excursion on Lake Toba by ferryboat and visiting several Batak Toba villages:
- T o m o k : to see the old tomb of Sidabutar Kings.
- Ambarita : to see stone chair and table the execution place of Sialagan Kings.
- Simanindo : to see Batak Toba traditional dance (Tor-Tor) and museum.
- Ambarita : to see stone chair and table the execution place of Sialagan Kings.
- Simanindo : to see Batak Toba traditional dance (Tor-Tor) and museum.
In the afternoon, we will return to hotel (B)
DAY 08 : SAMOSIR – SIPIROK
After breakfast, we will cross back to Parapat and continue driving to Sipirok. En route, we will stop by at Pineapple, clove, and coffee plantation; visiting traditional market at Balige Sigur-gur and Sipoholon hot springs. Before we reach Sipirok, we can spend the rest of the day by walking at Sarulla riverbank and enjoy the nature, including the rice terrace view. We will stay overnight at hotel. (B)
DAY 09 : SIPIROK – BUKITTINGGI
We will leave Sipirok for Bukittinggi and passing by rain tropical forest of Rimba Panti. En route, we will stop by to see the attraction of monkey picking up the coconut. Visit some plantations of pepper, vanilla, cardamom and cinnamon, then crossing the equator line at Bonjol. In the afternoon, we will arrive at Bukittinggi the charming town of Minangkabau and directly check in to hotel. (B)
DAY 10 : BUKITTINGGI – MINANGKABAU TOUR
After breakfast, we will take a city tour by visiting Sianok Canyon with its Japanese tunnel; Fort de Kock; Museum; and Jam Gadang (Big Tower O’clock) the landmark of the town then we will drive to Batu Sangkar via Tabek Patah. En route, we will stop by at Rao-Rao to visit Minangkabau traditional village and see traditional coffee milling. Upon arrival in Batu Sangkar, we will drive to Pagaruyung to visit the Palace of Minangkabau Kingdom. In the afternoon, we will return to Bukittinggi via Padang Panjang and visit Pandai Sikat village to see Minangkabau traditional hand woven and woodcarving. (B)
DAY 11 : BUKITTINGGI – PUNCAK LAWANG TRACKING TO MANINJAU
After breakfast, we will drive to Puncak Lawang. En route, we will stop by at Koto Gadang village to see traditional silver work. After arrive in Puncak Lawang, we will trek down to Lake Maninjau via Lawang jungle. We will take a coffee break at traditional coffee shop in the jungle. We will experience walking at the bank of rice field and village. Upon arrival at Maninjau, we will check in to hotel. (B)
DAY 12 : MANINJAU FREE
Today is your free time to swim on Lake Maninjau, walking or cycling around the lake. (B)
DAY 13.MANINJAU – PADANG
After breakfast, we will drive to Padang via Pariaman. En route, we will stop by at Artha beach. Upon arrival in Padang, we will visit Muara beach then check in to hotel (B)
DAY 14.HOTEL – AIRPORT / TRANSFER
After breakfast, it is a free time at own leisure before drive to airport (B).

BUKIT LAWANG TREKKING AND SIBAYAK VOLCANO ADVENTURE

Arrival at Polonia airport Medan drive to Bukit Lawang with stop at crocodile farm, and several plantation for rubber and palm oil arrival at Bukit Lawang check in to hotel.
Day 02 : BUKIT LAWANG TREKKING LEUSER PARK
After breakfast at hotel then walking trough the bank of the river and crossing the river by traditional canoe and walking up the jungle to see the Orang Utan on the their feeding time. After feeding the Orang Utan tracking throuhg the Leuser National Park, walking around Leuser National Park is the time to experience many kind of flora and fauna as well enjoy the song of birds and Siamang “The Black Gibbon” and overnight in tent or shelter. Day 03 : CONTINUE TREKKING RETURN TO HOTEL
After breakfast prepared by tour guide continue tracking, today is full day walking and explore the rain tropical forest with their wild life living in their natural habitat. Afternoon return to hotel. (B,L)
Day 04 : FULLDAY WHITE WATER RAFTING
After breakfast drive by mini bus to Wampu river and arrival at starting point, starting your white water rafting adventure. During the rafting, the excellent opportunity to see the bird and wild life as white enjoying the two mild rapids. Arrival at waterfall at the bank of the river enjoying your shower and lunch will be provided afternoon arrival at the point stop enjoying coffee break before driving back to hotel. (B,L)
Day 05 : BUKIT LAWANG - BRASTAGI
After breakfast drive back to Medan and continue drive to Brastagi on the way stop at Sikupikap hot spring, arrival at Brastagi visit Batak Karo traditional village at Peceren, fruitmarket, Gundaling hill and afternoon check in to hotel. (B).
Day 06 : SIBAYAK VOLCANO CLIMBING - MEDAN
After early breakfast drive to the slope of Sibayak volcano and then start climbing to Sibayak volcano, where approximately at noon arrival on the top of Sibayak, after take a rest and enjoy it the view, start tracking back to Brastagu via different route where you will arrive at Lau Debuk-Debuk hot spring and you can enjoy swimming on the hot spring pool and then drive back to Medan, arrival at Medan check in to hotel. Day 07 : HOTEL - AIRPORT
After breakfast transfer to airport for your flight to next destination. (B)
